Greetings Everyone,
Welcome and thanks for taking the time to visit our website. When I was a kid growing up we always had animals; cows, horses, chickens, etc. We bought baby Holstein bulls from a local dairy and raised them on powdered milk, often losing several at a time to scours or something else before we decided to go the "beef" route. Having a calf for the freezer and a few to sell each year was our main goal. Now some forty years later there is a much more scientific approach to things, especially if it is your livelihood or serious hobby. Here at Hickory Hill Farm we try to cater to both. For the serious cattleman we have a variety of both proven and cutting edge genetics for replacements. For juniors and those building their cow herds we have show prospects as well as herd building opportunities. Whatever your needs, call, visit, or check out the website for updates on what we have available.
Now a little about us, Hickory Hill Farms is nestled in the south central Tennessee hollows, just north of the Alabama-Tennessee state line, about halfway between Fayetteville and Ardmore. We currently run a total of about 160 registered Red Angus on 250 owned and 200 leased acres of land. We utilize an extensive AI and ET program and pride ourselves on our elite donor arsenal made up of the breed's most proven and respected cow families.
It has taken considerable time to buy, cull, identify, and retain the animals we want to get where we are today. I have learned from many of you that this is an on-going process that never really ends. Fortunately some of our partner relationships with Atkinson Reds and Solution Genetics have helped us get where we want to go a little faster. However, no one has taught me more or helped as much as my herd manager John Carter. John has that knack for remembering who every animal's mother, father, sister, brother, grandmother, etc. is or was. That is a big help when it comes to making progress in our mission; To build a cowherd from members of the breed's greatest cow families and proven high performance bulls, while never overlooking the importance of eye appeal, natural thickness, structural soundness, milking ability, and functional udders in an effort to define genotypic and phenotypic excellence. It's a mouthful but the resulting big picture is worth it.
We offer cattle private treaty off the farm as well as our Legends of the Fall Joint Production Sale in Oct., Stocking Stuffer in Dec., KY Beef Expo and SERAA "Grasstime" both in March, as well as other sales throughout the year.
Once again thanks for taking the time to visit our site. We hope you have a great year and come see us soon!
Sincerely,
The Wiley Finley family
